PROTOCOL

on the extension of the Cooperation Agreement between the European Economic Community and Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, member countries of the Association of the South-East Asian Nations, to Brunei-Darussalam

THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES,

of the one part,

THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA,

THE GOVERNMENT OF MALAYSIA,

THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES,

THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF SINGAPORE,

THE GOVERNMENT OF THE KINGDOM OF THAILAND,

and

THE GOVERNMENT OF BRUNEI-DARUSSALAM,

of the other part,

Having regard to the Cooperation Agreement between the European Economic Community and Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, member countries of the Association of South-East Asian Nations, signed on 7 March 1980 in Kuala Lumpur, hereinafter referred to as the 'Agreement',

Whereas Brunei-Darussalam as a new member of the Association of South-East Asian Nations has applied to accede to the Agreement,

HAVE DECIDED to extend the Agreement to Brunei-Darussalam and to this end have designated as their Plenipotentiaries:

Vice-President of the Commission of the European Communities;

THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA:

Prof. Dr MOCHTAR KUSUMAATMADJA,

Minister for Foreign Affairs;

THE GOVERNMENT OF MALAYSIA:

TENGKU AHMAD RITHAUDDEEN,

Minister of Foreign Affairs;

THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES:

Arturo M. TOLENTINO,

Minister for Foreign Affairs;

THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF SINGAPORE:

WHO, having exchanged their full powers, found in good and due form,

HAVE AGREED AS FOLLOWS:

Article 1

By this Protocol Brunei-Darussalam accedes to the Agreement.

Article 2

Save as otherwise provided in this Protocol, the provisions of the Agreement together with the Protocol concerning Article 1 of the Agreement shall apply to Brunei-Darussalam.

Article 3

As regards Brunei-Darussalam, the initial period of application of the Agreement shall expire on the same date as for the other Contracting Parties.

Article 4

This Protocol is drawn up in eight originals in the Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Greek and Italian languages, each of these texts being equally authentic.
