Official Journal L 191 , 12/08/1995 P. 0031 - 0031

AGREEMENT in the form of an exchange of letters adjusting the quantities provided for in the voluntary restraint agreement between the European Community and New Zealand on trade in sheepmeat and goatmeat as a result of the enlargement of the Community

A. Letter No 1

Sir,

I have the honour to refer to the 1980 Agreement between the European Community and New Zealand on trade in sheepmeat and goatmeat (hereinafter referred to as the 'Principle Agreement`) and in particular Clause 6 providing for the adjustment of the quantities provided for in that Agreement on the accession of new Member States to the Community.

I have the honour to refer also to the Exchange of Letters of 1989 constituting an Agreement between the Community and New Zealand adapting the Principal Agreement and to the Exchange of Letters of 1994 extending the adaptation of that Agreement to 30 June 1995.

Further to recent discussions, I have the honour to propose that the quantity imported into the Community and set in the Exchange of Letters of 1994 for the first six months of 1995 be increased by 850 tonnes to allow for the enlargement of the Community. I propose in addition that the other quantities and rules provided for in the Exchange of Letters of 1994 continue to apply.

I have the honour to propose that if the foregoing is acceptable to your Government, this letter and your confirmatory reply shall together constitute an Agreement between the Community and the Government of New Zealand on the matter.

Please accept, Sir, the assurance of my highest consideration.

On behalf of the Council of the European Union
