DECLARATION ON FREE ACCESS TO LAW
This is the joint statement of the Legal Information Institutes' (LIIs)
philosophy of free access to law. This declaration was made in 2002
at the meeting of LIIs in Montreal at the 4th Law via the Internet
Conference and further modifications were included at the Sydney
meeting of LIIs in 2003.

WORLDLII HOMEPAGE
In July WorldLII moved from the BETA version to its new homepage
design and new AutoSearch search facility.
WorldLII now comprises over 400 databases from 50 countries
across 6 continents, covering case law, legislation, treaties, law reform,
law journals and other specialist subject areas. The WorldLII Catalog
and Websearch facility adds a global catalog of over 13,000 websites
covering every country in the world and over 100 legal subjects. WorldLII
is a flexible and evolving combination of distributed and centralised
facilities. WorldLII sends searches out to some of its participating Legal
Information Institutes (see 'Declaration on Free Access to Law' above).
With others, it holds copies of their concordances. In other cases, the
databases are located on WorldLII. All of these can be searched and
the results merged and ranked in order of likely relevance to the user.
See <http://www.worldlii.org/>

AUTOSEARCH
AutoSearch should make searching easier, especially for new or
occasional users, as it does away with the need to specify the
search type (eg this boolean query). AutoSearch automatically
recognises:
* the 'any of these words' search type
* the 'boolean' search type (eg tort near negligence)
* searches for acts and sections provided you specify the year
(eg Privacy Act 1988, s14 or simply, freedom of information act)
* searches for cases provided you specify the 'v', 'v.', 'vs', 'vs.'
or 're' (eg Campbell v MGN; Tangiora v. Wellington District Legal
Services Committee; In re Smith; Mabo v Queensland)
