LAUNCH OF COMMONLII
The Commonwealth Legal Information Institute (CommonLII)
<http://www.commonlii.org/> was officially launched on 12 September
2005 at the 14th Commonwealth Law Conference in London.
CommonLII provides free access to 467 databases from 52
Commonwealth and common law countries and territories.
There is also a Catalog of law websites for all Commonwealth countries.
Notable database collections on CommonLII include those from India,
from Singapore and Malaysia, from most Caribbean countries, and
from twelve African countries. It is also possible to search
Commonwealth-wide for legislation (from 30 countries), or case law
or law reform.
CommonLII is supported by the Commonwealth Lawyers' Association,
Commonwealth Magistrates' and Judges' Association, Commonwealth
Association of Law Reform Agencies, the Institute of Advanced Legal
Studies and the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation. The
Australian Research Council and Australian Attorney-General's Department
have provided initial funding for development of CommonLII.

LAW VIA THE INTERNET CONFERENCE 2005
The Pacific Islands Legal Information Institute (PacLII), in conjunction
with the Australasian Legal Information Institute (AustLII), will
host the 7th 'Law via Internet' Conference on 17-19 November 2005
in Vila, Republic of Vanuatu. Previous Law via Internet Conferences
have been held in Sydney (1997, 1999, 2001, 2003), Montreal (2002)
and Paris (2004).
Law via the Internet 2005 will present both submitted and invited papers.
The Conference will be preceded by the annual meeting of the Free Access
to Law Movement on 17 November, and the conference proper will take
place on 18-19 November.

DRAFT CONFERENCE PROGRAMME
Law via Internet 2005 will present papers by experts from 10 countries
over two days. A draft conference programme is available at

Topics range from issues of global access to law, to practical issues of
the development of online law libraries, to court computerisation, to the
sustainability of free access to law in developing countries, to
commercial legal publishing online.

The Conference venue is the Emalus Campus at the University of the
South Pacific in beautiful Port Vila, capital of Vanuatu. Port Vila
is well known as a tourist destination and for its warm Melanesian

AUSTLII TOOLBAR - AN UPDATE
The AustLII Toolbar has been updated and is now also available for
the Mozilla Firefox web browser, in addition to the Netscape/Mozilla
and Microsoft Internet Explorer web browsers.
The Toolbar allows you to search AustLII from any website page. It
includes the AustLII menu which lists links for most of the major
category materials for all Australasian jurisdictions. The toolbar
also has buttons to link to the other Legal Information Institutes.

NEW AND UPDATED DATABASES
AUSTLII
"eJournal of Tax Research" (AustLII)
The eJournal of Tax Research is a double blind, peer review refereed
journal that publishes original, scholarly works on all aspects of
taxation. It is normally published twice a year by Atax within the
Faculty of Law of the University of NSW. Thematic editions
covering topical issues will also be published on a one-off basis.

"University of New England Law Journal" (AustLII)
The University of New England Law Journal was established in 2004
as a legal periodical publishing scholarly articles, case notes and
book reviews of interest to practitioners, academic lawyers and
students of law. The journal is generalist in outlook and publishes
on a wide variety of doctrinal, socio-legal, historical and theoretical
perspectives of the law from both Australian and international authors.
The journal is published twice a year, in June and December.
